Gunite (Eastern), via our Infrastructure department, have recently commenced works to the prestigious Tongland Hydro Power Station in Galloway, South West Scotland.
The Modernist Power Station was designed by Alexander Gibb and Partners in 1929, constructed in 1932 and listed as a category (A) site under Historic Scotland, for buildings of special architectural or historical interest which are outstanding examples of a particular period or style. The Tongland power station certainly fits this brief, the unique architecture sitting against the backdrop of the Galloway hills, never fails to impress.
The Galloway scheme was a significant technological achievement and the first example of run-of-the-river technology to be successfully utilised in the UK. Gunite very much look forward to working with our client and supply chain partners to bring this historic structure back to it’s former glory. The project is set to run until June 2023.
